Extra: Sell Up and Sail Away Video 3 – Palma Mallorca to Gibraltar

This video shows me at my best and my worst! For the first time in my life, I spent 3 full days sailing. I experienced sunsets, moonlit evenings, continuous greetings from dolphins, and I also experienced, seasickness, a Force 10 storm, and a longing for dry land! There are two other videos in this series (Sell up and sail away video 1 – Shows our sea trials and survey, Sell up and sail away 2 – A film about selling all our stuff and moving out of our home).

Sell Up and Sail Away Video 3

Looking back on our trip, I wish that I took more photos and more videos. I was seasick 50% of the time, so when I was down, I was really down. I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow. Every 12 hours I took Stergeron – an anti-sickness pill. Normally, I would have been puking over and over, but the pill stops the puking response. Unfortunately, however, it doesn’t stop the ill feelings. I’ve been researching solutions for seasickness and will eventually report my findings. What I’ve discovered is that medications don’t really solve the problem. They prevent the vomit response but they don’t prevent the actual dizziness, drowsiness, and overall crap feelings.

After a bit of searching on the Internet, I’ve discovered a hypnosis audio download and a special ‘programme’ of exercises to rid oneself of seasickness. Once I test these various options out, I’ll write an article about it.

Anyway, the video misses out on the moon-lit evenings, the dolphins (I was too excited to remember using my camera!), and the sheer gratefulness of being back on land. Oh well…you have to start somewhere, don’t you?

I hope you enjoy the video!

Next Chapter: 26. Sell up and sail away preparations – we successfully took possession of your new yacht

Previous Chapter: 25.Things got worse

Or…if you’d like to carry on reading all about our journey from selling up and sailing away, you can purchase my book, ‘Changing Lifestyles – Trading the Rat Race in For A Sail Around The World,’

Changing LifestylesREADER REVIEW
Amazon Reader. 5 Star Review!
"This is the story of a woman who was on multiple journeys; looking for a change in her life's course, learning the ropes of a new boat, and navigating what it is to parent a child as she and her husband embark on this journey. Great as an adventure story, but also got me excited to read it as a travel guide!" Cherie
