Negotiations are nuts! Will we or won’t we get the boat of our dreams?
We have a reoccurring pattern that seems to happen in our large purchase decisions. Inevitably we always go after something that is slightly out of our reach. In the past we’ve gone after houses that were a wee bit too much – we’d have to pull out all the stops to get it, but when we wanted it, we usually found the money. Oddly, we’ve never found something and thought – yeah, we can easily buy that and then we buy it.
Almost at breaking point.
With our sell up and sail plans, our negotiations on a 56′ yacht are almost at breaking point. The price has gone back and forth 5 times and although we’re getting an extremely incredible deal, it’s still too much. We can easily buy the boat but if we pay the heavily negotiated price we’ll have very little to live off of.
To get this amazing deal, we need to buy it before the new year – we need to buy the boat within the next 2 months.
What’s the sense of buying an amazing boat if we can’t afford to sail it?
However…and this is a pivotal ‘however’…
If we sell our current boat quickly, we’ll be good to go. We’ll have enough money to live off of. The question is how quickly can we sell our boat? Some boats sell in months and others take years.
Part of me wants to say ‘screw it – let’s buy the boat and pray that our boat sells quick enough to get money to live off of,’ and another part of me is telling me, ‘screw it – forget this great deal…there’s something better out there.’
It’s so difficult! We’re so close.
My shoulders are scrunched, my chest is tight, my teeth ache from clenching my jaw. I want to get a beautiful boat to live out my dream and I want to be able to afford to live.
The drama of it all! Will we get the boat of our dreams?
