Britican Shop

Welcome to Britican’s Shop

We’ve said ‘screw-it’ to the ‘normal’ way of life. Instead of saving our pennies until we retire, we’re using a large portion of our money to live our long held dream of sailing around the world. After doing the whole being a kid, going to school/university, getting a job, getting married, having a child and then working, working, working we decided that life wasn’t all that we wanted. Feeling exhausted, burnt-out, bored and unhealthy my husband and I asked each other:

‘What if we sold everything we have and live the life we’ve always dreamt of? What if we stopped waiting to win the lottery and just lived our dream anyway?’

By asking those two simple questions, we gave ourselves the opportunity to explore another life…we opened ourselves up to choose life’s course rather than have it laid out before us.

Our decision to sell up and sail away wasn’t easy. We were flooded with many fears, concerns and worries. And considering that our 3 year old daughter would be joining us, we had quite a bit to get our heads around. There was a money issue – we only have so much of it and what happens when it’s gone? And of course, there’s a parenting issue – will a 3 -5 year around the world trip help our hinder our child? Will we be able to homeschool our daughter? Will she be socialised. These are just a few of the worries we felt.

Instead of saving our money for retirement, we took the plunge and decided to spend a huge chunk of it to live life now. We’ve decided to pack in our jobs and instead, spend quality time with our family, friends and make new connections. We’re taking a risk, saying “no” to the ‘normal’ life and living our dream. Will it all be a mistake? I hope not.

To help us get the Britican message out, we’ve set up a shop

We’ve decided to set up a shop selling products that mean something to us. They fall in line with our values, causes or mission. Who knows where this shop will go or what products it will eventually house? Hopefully it will enable us to get our messages out into the world that others can follow our path…So – if you like what we are doing and what we stand for AND want to help support our various causes buy something at our store.  We thank you in advance.

Britican Galley

My vision for Britican Galley is to remind people that meals can be a time for relaxation, enjoyment, health and connection to others. When I was working in London, I ate my breakfast on the train while reading emails (if I even ate breakfast!), I grabbed a quick sandwich at a shop and gobbled it up while reading reports and for dinner, I warmed up a store-bought lasagna that my family ate earlier followed by a 1/2 bottle of wine to numb the empty feelings I lived with. The simple meal is one of the most amazing pleasures we have at our disposal but we’ve been distracted by work, technology, TV and life.

So many of us have forgotten the beauty of meal time! To eat fresh, local, quality ingredients, prepared lovingly and eaten in a relaxed manner while conversing joyously with friends and family. By doing so, you reduce your carbon footprint, increase your health, connect more meaningfully with friends and family AND provide yourself with true pleasure.

To get us started off with the shop, we’ve taken my mom’s herbal blend products and rebranded them ‘Britican Galley.’ Mom has had a great business for the past 10 years selling organic herbal blends over the Internet, at the New York State Food & Wine Fair and at the public market in Irondequoit, NY. Considering that Britican is stocked with mom’s blends, we figured it would make sense to not only use them, but promote her great products too. Honestly, Britican Galley Herb & Spice blends are brilliant for boaters AND homeowners. Get some today!

Britican Clothing

One day I’d love to have a Britican clothing line. A quality sailing clothes brand that represents the Britican values:

  • having the ability to consciously choosing life’s course
  • spending quality family time enjoying the fantastic world of sailing
  • eating fresh local produce (reduced carbon footprint) with family and friends
  • creating deeper and more genuine connections with others
  • finding success doing what you love

I have no idea how to create a clothing brand but the seed has been set. We’ll have to wait and see how that developed but until then, I have family and friends that have offered to help support our cause by creating products under the Britican brand.

My cousin Loryn, who has joined us from the beginning has an amazing mom, my Aunt Sandy, that makes hand-knit clothing and accessories. To help our cause she’s offered to knit quality sailing sweaters and other goods for us under the Britican Clothing brand. Nothing is better than a truly hand knit piece of clothing! Perhaps one day we’ll be able to have our own clothing line like Ralph Lauren Polo or Nautica? Who knows? We all have to start somewhere – don’t we?

Enter Britican Clothing above to see what’s available.
