Sailing Destinations

If you’re looking for an overview, some pictures/videos, and what life is like for sailing cruisers when visiting various sailing destinations you’ve come to the right place. We’ve been sailing since 2013 and everywhere we go we do our best to provide you with information to help you to make decisions. Perhaps you want to make the same passages and visit the same places?!

Sailing Destinations

To navigate our website, I’ve broken the following geographic areas down into The Atlantic Crossing, Bermuda, The Bahamas, Caribbean, Florida, and the Mediterranean. Within each section, you’ll find a sub-menu along the right side of the page detailing every passage and destination within those groupings. We also have some articles and videos about Charleston, South Carolina as we lived on our boat in a marina there for over a year.

ATLANTIC CROSSING

Our Atlantic Crossing was monumental – it wasn’t a sailing destination it was an epic sailing experience! It took a lot of planning, hard work getting the boat ready, quite a bit of courage, and a substantial financial commitment.

We did our Atlantic Crossing with The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC). ARC is run by the World Cruising Club and provides support, education, safety measures and a way for sailors to all make the journey at the same time. The route that we took was from Gran Canaria, an island off the west coast of Africa, to St Lucia in the Caribbean.

SAILING AND VISITING BERMUDA

Our Bermuda passage and sailing destination information will demonstrate how we prepared our sailboat for a long journey, what the five-day passage was like, what life is like when you finally reach a destination, tours of St George’s and Hamilton in addition to special activities to do while in Bermuda. The real corker, however, was our trip back from Bermuda to North Carolina. It was bad. Very bad. Perhaps it’s worth you watching our video so you know just how bad it can get so you make sure to pick a good weather window!

SAILING DESTINATION – THE BAHAMAS

Our sailing the Bahamas adventures were full of all sorts – storms, sharks, new friends, beautiful turquoise waters, engine failure, pigs, iguanas, carnivals, lots of shallows, and more. Read and watch our Sailing Bahamas series, full of articles and videos, to get a feel for sailing in and around the Bahamas, booking in, varied anchorages, lovely sights, must-see spots, and some great sailing.

Each article/video offers information on passage planning. Also, you’ll discover what the journey is like, entrances to anchorages and marinas, and things to do at each location.

For a bit of variety and lessons about what boat life is truly like we’ve also showcased various boat high and lowlights.

If you’re planning a sailing adventure up or down the Caribbean island chain this website is for you. By watching these videos will provide you with helpful tips on what to do, what not to do in addition to providing you with a good feel for each sailing destination area.

SAILING AROUND THE MEDITERRANEAN

We spent two years in the Mediterranean. We went from Gibraltar to Turkey and back again stopping at as many sailing destinations as possible. Follow our route around the Med and determine which places we stopped that you would like to check out yourself! Also, read up about what to do during the winter seasons.

Britican Experience

Reality of boat life

Sail To A French Caribbean Island

"We have been following Kim and Simon on YouTube for a while now. So when they introduced the Britican Experience program, we were excited for the opportunity to experience time with them as part of our research before we make the leap into this different lifestyle that we're considering.

From the outside looking in, the Britican Experience might seem like any other charter vacation where you get to see the environment of living in a small space and the freedom of being able to pull up anchor and move to the next lovely tropical paradise. The Britican Experience is about immersing yourself in the life and culture of a boat community and the daily practices of having a floating home that moves constantly, the trade-offs you make for this life, and the peace and serenity of a much simpler existence. You are enveloped in the experience as soon as you meet them! When we met the Britican family it was as though we had known them all our life.

For us, the Britican Experience was really about a change in mindset. We became comfortable calling the boat our home, and it became routine to consider how to keep it safe, clean, and comfortable. We dined with great people, ate delicious food, planned and prepared for passages, fished, stargazed, chased rays and turtles while snorkeling, raced hermit crabs, trimmed the sails, steered into harbors, and made decisions every day due to the changing conditions and environment. After not too long we were in the swing of things, embracing the need to be flexible, not making decisions based on a schedule, and realizing that a crimson horizon and a cool sundowner are perfect introductions to a lifelong excursion of blue-water bliss.

The Britican Experience is an affirmation, a reality check, a confirmation that this is the lifestyle and life that we indeed are going to pursue. It gave us the confidence that we could reach for and grasp what the Britican crew is experiencing every day.

With heartfelt thanks to Kim, Simon, and Sienna for their hospitality, patience, wisdom, and, friendship- we look forward to sharing an anchorage together!" The Lander's Family.
