Hey – thanks so much for coming here. If you’re looking for quick answers or suggestions on a way forward, you’ve come to the right place.
Simon, Sienna and I have been liveaboard cruisers for over four years and have traveled for over 30,000 miles. We definitely don’t know everything (never will!) but we have certainly have racked up a lot of experience and friends within the sailing community. What we don’t know we can usually ask a friend and find out.
The most common questions that people ask us fall into three categories:
1. How Do I Get Started
Where do I start? How much does it cost? How do I get my wife/husband to agree to do this? What about the kids – will they be socialized? What skills do I need? How do I get those skills? Is my dream crazy? What about pirates?
2. The Plan Is In Motion, but…
With so many things to sort out, what is a priority and what is not? Do I really need air evacuation insurance? I’m feeling overwhelmed, is that normal? This is what I’m planning for homeschooling – is it good enough? How can I ensure we’re going to be safe?
3. We Got the Boat – Now What?
What should we concentrate on first? How do we get to know our boat without crashing it? Is our passage plan right? Are we reading the weather forecast correctly? Is XYZ a good anchorage? Crap – there’s a hurricane coming, how do we prepare? What do I bring for a Pot Luck to make an impression?

We provide hundreds of free videos and articles – no one pays us for all the great content we publish. We’ve avoided taking on big sponsors to ensure we can keep our information totally unbiased. To keep our support going, we rely on the sales from our paid-for sailing guides (How to Anchor, How To Choose A Marina, Checklists for Sailors, etc. – Visit Shop) and donations in return for support.
- Simply click the button below to donate to our cause.
- Once you do, you’ll be redirect to a page that provides very short instructions on how to send the questions or request a phone call.
The average contribution is $25 but we’ve been giving $5 and in one case $1,000. No matter what, I’m sure we’ll be able to save you time and money – you will get a massive return on your investment…and if you don’t, we’ll give you back your donation.
