    HI Simon & Kim,
Like you, we have a saga to tell in regards to Coppercoat. I just published our 4-year experience complete with videos, photos, and test results. Perhaps you can add the link as another resource for your readers.

    Hello Kim, Simon, and Sienna,

I’ve nothing to say apart from the fact that I’ve been watching your 2014 early YouTube videos and I am most impressed with what you’ve done.
Something you may not realise, but those early videos are the only ones I’ve seen where the very first steps to becoming a liveaboard are vlogged, and I will be showing them to my wife. I am trying to gradually ease her into the idea of leaving London, for good!

Thank you again, I think your channel is great, and hope you are all well.

    Alan

    Hi guys,
Another great video, this one about St. Martin, very well done and fun to watch. You surely show there’s plenty to do and it sounds like a sailors place with its chandlery, mega food store, and all the rest. Thanks for the video.

    Hello Kim & Simon,
Really love your site and videos; thank you for sharing your experiences. Glad you are sailing again and I look forward to more great stories!

I’m an experienced sailor (American) and am planning to try early retirement and cruising with my fiancĂ©e (French) so maybe we will name our boat Fren-ican. 🙂

My question is would you recommend a renting a boat and trying it for a season first instead of buying a boat? I am thinking it might be wise because:
    – I will learn exactly what kind of boat I really want without the long term commitment
    – Get to experience one season and not have to worry about what to do for winter, etc.
    – If my partner doesn’t like it I’m not stuck with a live-aboard boat.

Of course, finding a good, properly equipped boat to rent for a season seems quite difficult and expensive.
    Any thoughts very appreciated!
    Fair winds!

Hey Jason – If you can find a boat to rent for a season that would be AMAZING. Learn what you need to learn before buying!!! That would be a perfect situation. The only issue is that I’m not sure it’s easy to find a boat that you can rent out for longer than a week/2-weeks. Failing that, check out a company like SunSail as they offer Flotilla and Bareboat offers with a variety of different boats located all over the world. You can try different boats AND different locations. Furthermore, it’s more of a vacation rather than living the sailing life so chances are that your partner will see the best parts of sailing first (break her in easily). Best wishes with your search for a boat. I look forward to hearing how it goes. Smiles, Kim

At the beginning of April I was once again very fortunate and honored to join the Brown family for my second Britican Experience. Thank you once again Simon, Kim and Siena for a wonderful sailing experience. You all took great care of this 73 year old so well throughout my visit.

On this trip it wasn’t all ”Plain sailing”. I was able to experience first hand what is involved in the maintenance of a 56 foot Oyster sailboat and to keep her in great shape when sailing in the Caribbean, or anywhere remote.

Just before my visit, the engine fuel injector pump failed and a new one was nowhere to be found. Simon worked out the logistics of getting the part refurbished in Fort Lauderdale. Simon flew it up there and I would bring the part down to St. Marten at the start of my trip. The Engine was repaired soon after my arrival, but it just brought home that things break and you have to be prepared for anything.

Simon and Kim were very gracious and let me extend my stay due to the delayed start.

Then we went sailing around the beautiful Caribbean waters off St. Martin, St. Barth’ss, Ile Fourchue and Tintamarre. Paradise.

If you and your family are thinking about the cruising lifestyle, I can highly recommend that you try The Britican Experience with hosts Simon, Kim and daughter Sienna. They are just a wonderful team. You will learn so much and be more confident before you sail into the wide blue yonder.

    Kind regards,

    Les

Really enjoyed your latest video, 10/12/21. Look forward to a big experience in a few weeks, maybe not quite as big as this though. Thought Len & especially #boatkid Cassie did well under a bunch of stress. Look forward to meeting some of the other sailing families, your friends, while with you. Hope the Covid 19 situation improves between now & my arrival.

Hey Simon, I’m pretty sure I worked with you in HMYOI Aylesbury!
Great to see you on the water!
I’m out in the BVI on a 48′ charter boat out of Tortola in July.
Let me know if you need anything bringing out…if you’re in the area.
I’ve been sailing since ’87 but just charter each year. I hope to buy my own boat one day!

    Best Wishes and fair winds!
