Checklists will help you become more organized and motivated to do the right things.
You’ll also get things done quicker and more efficiently, have more clarity, delegate, save lives, and continually improve.
Since 2014, we’ve learned an incredible amount about sailing, passage planning, anchoring, taking guests aboard, servicing and maintaining our systems (engine, generator, pumps, batteries, and on), cleaning schedules, provisioning, medical concerns, equipment for your boat, and even how to entertain young children on board.
This book is a guide, or a blueprint, to help you mitigate your learning curve regarding various standard tasks associated with sailing a sailboat.

Every Checklist You might Ever Need in One Book – After months of drafting my own inadequate checklists a friend recommended Kimberly Browns book Checklists for Sailors. I never realised that there were so many aspects to sailing that this very comprehensive and complete book covers in ensuring that risks are minimised through thorough pre planning. In addition the offer of the Microsoft Word soft copy has allowed me to modify, consolidate and tailor these checklists to my own personal needs. As a serious sailor in Australia and the Pacific I would highly recommend this book.
David Gilchrist –
Just what the captain and crew needed – Much needed book for my upcoming voyages. This will help me keep on track during my outfitting and stocking.

I just started reading it and I can see how useful this is going to be. Thanks to Kim, there is no need for newbies like myself to invent the wheel all over again. I will also buy her other books. The work she has put in is astounding! A comprehensive book! Thanks!

Once again, Thanks Kim and Simon for this excellent reference. As mentioned in a previous review, No need to reinvent the wheel. Its all here. This is my go to sailing material. Well organized and thorough. No need to say more. Just pick it up, start reading, and get out there and sail 🙂

Just what we needed to make sure that we are covering the bases on such a wide variety of items onboard. The checklists are very organized and look easy to use — just print one off, or load it up on the tablet and we’re ready to go. Great time-saver and definitely a must-have onboard! Thanks, Britican, for putting this together!

Looks just like what I need. Not used them yet but, as a newly qualified Day Skipper with an aviation background (= lots of checklists) I was going to write my own. This will ensure I don’t miss anything and will save lots of time. First solo voyage in July (COVID permitting!).
Thanks
Robin

Kim I’m writing you my comments as a review .
This book is a fantastic resource for your first years cruising under sail .
I like this book and have learnt so much from it , specifically the well elaborated lists from real experience as boat owners and live aboard cruisers with lot of experience. Information is very clear and fun to look through , It has been relevant to me as boat owner in many aspects of sailing and boat maintenance .
Some sections are brief but its always good enough to set me in the right directions , the lists are smart elaborated and in my case did work perfect to get all properly organized .
Really recommend this book to anyone interested in the live aboard and cruising life .

Bravo !
Translation:
What a huge job! I discovered the site a little by chance while preparing our round-the-world trip to sail, departing from France, and without precision to return to Europe. All these checklists seem excellent to me, I will take the time to translate them into French as best as possible. Well done!

Checklists are essential. Every boat, skipper and crew are different and will have their special lists. Having a book full of lists from experienced bluewater sailors is extremely valuable to either use them straight out of the book or help you write or complete your own lists. I found quite a number of lists I had thought of starting myselves but never got around doing. Thanks!!
Chris Jones (verified owner) –
Comprehensive – saved us a load of work!

Wonderful collection of sailing knowledge, thank you for sharing.
Colin Gray (verified owner) –
Just buying my first “proper” boat and the more I research it and the better I understand all that owning a 41′ boat entails the more complex I realise it is. Check lists haven’t yet been used … BUT THEY WILL BE!! Fantastic job at putting these all together in such detail.
Michael –
Great product. Extremely helpful. And can be easily tailored to ones individual needs with the word version….Money well spent
Vicki Retzlaff (verified owner) –
Very excited to start reading the book and reviewing the MS word checklist. Before I buy my first boat. I like the idea of doing prevent stuff before it becomes a bigger problem later. Looking forward to a reading the MS word checklist!

This book is just the ticket to answer questions, get ideas, and organize our thought processes. It’s practical and written with all sailors in mind, beginning and seasoned.

I am a long-time list maker/user and am creating lists for my new boat. Kim’s book is a great time saver for anyone who wants either to adopt hers as is or modify them for their own needs. If you don’t like waking up at night in a panic, returning to the dock 3 times or kicking yourself (or others) over things forgotten, USE LISTS! Kim’s are a great place to start and will save you much time and hand wringing.
Thanks Kim!
Simon Jones –
Just the job. Taking the time to assemble these checklists is a great way of sharing experience and helping cruisers worldwide.

Thanks to Britican for providing this novice sailor and (admitted!) control/organizing freak a way to corral my thoughts and questions and find answers all in the same place! We are definitely ‘list people’ so this is our way to go….otherwise, how in the world does anyone remember anything??? love!

Fantastic resource for someone who just bought his first boat!
Dominic Liddell –
I have been trying to create the ultimate electronic checklist for my boat and found that my thought process would dry up or jump around to the extent that there was a lot of thinking and not a lot of writing. I have bought the whole set of checklists and cruising guides on special and they are a great read they offer insights into the reasons for the checklist and the items on it. I can now start to order them the way I want knowing that the process has been fully researched by Kim and Paul. Great job!

Leggett Family –
My husband is in the Coast Guard and we’re buying our first catamaran. But I am on the other spectrum of sailing, it’s all so new. So having a checklist to reference and guide me through the process is very comforting. This is a great resource to utilize to create various checklists for systems and routines onboard.
Bernard (verified owner) –
Checklists for Sailors is a very comprehensive set of checklists covering the aspects of running and living on a sailboat. It has been compiled from a vast wealth of experience and is the perfect basis for forming your own personalised lists. Highly recommended.
Mark James (verified owner) –
We’ve purchased and used several Sailing Briticon Checklists before and still refer to some on almost all cruises. Very well written and takes some of the tech-speak language out of their guides. Very well organized as well! Thanks Kim and Simon! (well…mostly Kim…sorry Simon)
Robert Baldwin (verified owner) –
Very Helpful
William Holditch –
This has been a great help for us as we start our sailing adventure
Kirk Hegwood (verified owner) –
The Checklists for Sailors is a huge time saver for newer sailors. Instead of trying to accumulate different lists from multiple sources, this all in one package gets you started immediately. Over the next several months, we’ll be tailoring it to our own specific needs. Thanks Britican and fair winds to you all!
Kenneth Anders Waag –
This is a very handy reference and resource. Checklists are great organizers and reminders, both of which I need. Clearly, a lot of time and effort has been put into this guide. In turn, it has saved that same time and effort for me, and based on experience, it more thorough than I could have been. No doubt, this book and the checklists will improve my preparedness and safety. I received the editable checklists, and the ability to customize things to my preference is a true bonus. We’re all a little different, and it was an excellent idea to allow for that. Glad to have these materials and will be looking into their other books.
