Description
When we purchased a sailboat and decided to sail around the world we were overwhelmed by the enormous learning curve. We needed checklists for sailors! Sailing our new sailboat was one part of the equation but what really baffled us, at the start, were the hundreds of maintenance tasks and cleaning routines.
Checklists will help you to become more organized and motivated to get the right things done.
You’ll also get things done quicker and more efficiently, have more clarity, delegate, save lives, and continually improve.
Almost six years after we started, we’ve learned an incredible amount about sailing, passage planning, anchoring, taking guests aboard, servicing and maintaining our systems (engine, generator, pumps, batteries, and on), cleaning schedules, provisioning, medical concerns and even how to entertain young children on board.
This book is a guide, or a blueprint, to help you mitigate your learning curve regarding a variety of standard tasks associated with sailing a sailboat.
Here are just some of the checklists for sailors that you’ll find in this helpful resource:

- Boat briefing checklists for sailors

Every Checklist You might Ever Need in One Book – After months of drafting my own inadequate checklists a friend recommended Kimberly Browns book Checklists for Sailors. I never realised that there were so many aspects to sailing that this very comprehensive and complete book covers in ensuring that risks are minimised through thorough pre planning. In addition the offer of the Microsoft Word soft copy has allowed me to modify, consolidate and tailor these checklists to my own personal needs. As a serious sailor in Australia and the Pacific I would highly recommend this book.
David Gilchrist –

I just started reading it and I can see how useful this is going to be. Thanks to Kim, there is no need for newbies like myself to invent the wheel all over again. I will also buy her other books. The work she has put in is astounding! A comprehensive book! Thanks!

Once again, Thanks Kim and Simon for this excellent reference. As mentioned in a previous review, No need to reinvent the wheel. Its all here. This is my go to sailing material. Well organized and thorough. No need to say more. Just pick it up, start reading, and get out there and sail 🙂

Just what we needed to make sure that we are covering the bases on such a wide variety of items onboard. The checklists are very organized and look easy to use — just print one off, or load it up on the tablet and we’re ready to go. Great time-saver and definitely a must-have onboard! Thanks, Britican, for putting this together!

Looks just like what I need. Not used them yet but, as a newly qualified Day Skipper with an aviation background (= lots of checklists) I was going to write my own. This will ensure I don’t miss anything and will save lots of time. First solo voyage in July (COVID permitting!).
Thanks
Robin

Kim I’m writing you my comments as a review .
This book is a fantastic resource for your first years cruising under sail .
I like this book and have learnt so much from it , specifically the well elaborated lists from real experience as boat owners and live aboard cruisers with lot of experience. Information is very clear and fun to look through , It has been relevant to me as boat owner in many aspects of sailing and boat maintenance .
Some sections are brief but its always good enough to set me in the right directions , the lists are smart elaborated and in my case did work perfect to get all properly organized .
Really recommend this book to anyone interested in the live aboard and cruising life .

Bravo !

What a huge job! I discovered the site a little by chance while preparing our round-the-world trip to sail, departing from France, and without precision to return to Europe. All these checklists seem excellent to me, I will take the time to translate them into French as best as possible. Well done!

Checklists are essential. Every boat, skipper and crew are different and will have their special lists. Having a book full of lists from experienced bluewater sailors is extremely valuable to either use them straight out of the book or help you write or complete your own lists. I found quite a number of lists I had thought of starting myselves but never got around doing. Thanks!!

Comprehensive – saved us a load of work!

Just buying my first “proper” boat and the more I research it and the better I understand all that owning a 41′ boat entails the more complex I realise it is. Check lists haven’t yet been used … BUT THEY WILL BE!! Fantastic job at putting these all together in such detail.
Michael –
Great product. Extremely helpful. And can be easily tailored to ones individual needs with the word version….Money well spent

Very excited to start reading the book and reviewing the MS word checklist. Before I buy my first boat. I like the idea of doing prevent stuff before it becomes a bigger problem later. Looking forward to a reading the MS word checklist!
