When sailing northeast along the Caribbean island chain it’s possible to skip Puerto Rico. Many cruisers sail from the Virgin Islands, over the top of Puerto Rico and up to Turks and Caicos or the Bahamas. They choose not to sail Puerto Rico. Skipping Puerto Rico on the way down, however, is not as easy.
