For Members Only! We catch Mahi Mahi often and it’s usually loved by all those aboard. The fish doesn’t have a strong flavor and it’s nice flaky white meat so most people love it. Below you’ll find our top three favorite easy Mahi Mahi recipes.
Filleting a Mahi Mahi might take a while but these recipes are fast, easy and exceptionally tasty. After eating Mahi Mahi aboard Britican, our guests are always eager to get the fishing pole out the very next day. I often make a joke and yell out to the sea,
‘We’d like a Mahi Mahi tonight!’ (or I ask for Black Fin Tuna or another yummy fish)
I’m amazed at how often my orders get delivered. Make sure to save these recipes somewhere on the boat where you can easily refer to them.
Fish Tacos
Any fish can be battered, fried and dropped into a soft taco. Mahi Mahi is no exception. This is by far our most favorite way to eat all our fish. The fun part is trying different toppings (in other words, finding whatever you have in your fridge/bilge to top the tacos and/or complete the meal).
- Cut fillet into small strips or chunks
- Coat in flour
- Dip in whisked egg
- Coat in breadcrumbs (optional: season breadcrumbs with salt and pepper, parmesan cheese or Cajun seasoning)
- Heat oil in frying pan and once hot, fry fish in small batches. It only takes a couple minutes on each side, if that. Alternatively, you can bake the fish fingers or dry fry them on a hotplate
- Serve in soft taco shells and top with any or all of the following options:
- Veggies: lettuce, tomatoes, olives, cucumber, red onion, beans
- Cheese: shredded cheddar, Mexican mix
- Finely sliced cabbage, carrots, coconut shavings and lime juice
- Hot sauce
- For a side dish, consider:
- Rice and beans
- Guacamole and tortilla chips
- Coleslaw
- Refried beans
Lemon Garlic Mahi Mahi
Fresh fish is delicious simply fried in butter, but what’s even better is lemon and garlic. Yum. These instructions are for four fillets. Increase the ingredient amounts accordingly.
- Add a Tablespoon of butter and oil each
- Fry the fillets in the butter/oil and season with salt and pepper for three minutes on either side (maximum)
- Transfer fish to a plate
- Add two more Tablespoons of butter and three good sized minced garlic cloves. Cook for one minute
- Add the zest of a lemon and the lemon juice and pour the mixture over the fish
Blackened Mahi Mahi
Blackened, or Cajun Fish, is always a winner! And it couldn’t be easier.
- Pat fish fillets dry
- Roll fillets in Cajun seasoning – make sure to press it into the fish
- Heat half butter and half oil (start with 1 Tablespoon each) on medium heat. When it’s hot, fry the fish undisturbed for a few minutes and then flip over for a few more minutes
- Serve and squeeze a fresh lemon over the fish
- Serve with mashed sweet potatoes and any green vegetable you can find
