Hello Simon,
Another great video. Thanks for your hard work. I enjoy them.
My company works with stainless, so I thought I would give you an “elbow grease free” way of eliminating rust on stainless and also add a protective micro barrier to the surface to prolong the re-occurance of rust again.
We use a 10% solution of citric acid to water to de-rust and treat the stainless that we do fabrication work on. We typically soak parts in a bath, but it can be sprayed on with a household spray bottle. It needs to be kept moist, and the best result is 20-30 minutes. After this time, just hose it off with fresh water and WALA! No rust and a protective barrier on the surface. The nice thing about a water like liquid is that it can get to areas where your brush and paste can not. Like the back of the cleat you were working on in the video.
Citric acid is used in canning, so I would imagine you can find it anywhere in the world. We buy it in powder form and just mix it with the water.
One other note. Stainless rusts due to the carbon content or contanimation. You can help reduce rust by never using steel or carbon tools (wrenches, screw drivers, saws, sand paper etc). I mention saws and sandpaper because, if they have ever been used on a steel or carbon steel object, they transfer that to the stainless and rust begins to show very quickly.
Enjoy

Or buy some Spotless Stainless. Its probably a bit more costly but is essentially the same but in a nice gel so that it sticks. https://spotlessstainless.com/
