What’s it like living aboard a sailboat? There’s a bit of this and a bit of that… we often have several projects going on, we take time off the boat to soak in our surroundings and we try our best to operate like any other family does. Our seven-year-old daughter, Sienna, goes to school (until hurricane season ends), enjoys her friends and spends time with mom and dad.
Mom and dad work to keep the boat in good shape, create videos and articles helping to educate, entertain, inspire and connect with other sailors and attempt to maintain a worklife balance.
In the following Living Aboard a Sailboat Video, we’ll take you through some of our current projects.
The first is our carbon fiber mast. In August, we went sailing in rough seas and the conditions caused a baton, or rod, to push out of our sail and rub against our mast. At first we thought we’d have to take the mast down (a massive cost) but later discovered that the work could be done with the boat in the water. My husband, Simon, will give and update as to what work was done and where we are now.
We’ve also had various leaks in our forward cabin.
After three years I’d like to announce that we think we’ve finally figured out all the issues. There’s very little that Simon hasn’t done. The video will show his latest attempts and getting a dry cabin.
Simon also covers our CopperCoat Antifoul story – at the moment it’s an absolute disaster, but we’re still hopeful that our $11,700 cost won’t come to nothing. I wrote a full article about our CopperCoat Antifoul issues, so read that. Also – in the video I mentioned that the cost was $15,000 – I was wrong on that figure. It was only $11.700. Sorry about that.
We also discuss what we’ve been doing post Hurricane Irma. She certainly taught us a lesson in gratitude.
Simon and I have been super stressed out – before and after Irma.
We’ve made a conscious decision to chill out a bit. To take more breaks. Instead of work on the boat, videos, emails, etc. non-stop, we’ve now started to take walks on the beach most mornings. We’re taking time to appreciate the beautiful world we live in.
