Most sailing cruisers sincerely appreciate all water vessels, especially those that made a mark on history. While visiting our home base in Gosport, we paid a visit to the Portsmouth Naval Museum, in Portsmouth, UK otherwise known as the National Museum of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
Within the museum, you are able to explore Nelson’s legendary warship aboard HMS Victory. You can also tour the pride of Queen Victoria’s fleet in HMS Warrior and check out the Mary Rose Museum where we discovered the fascinating story as she went from King Henry VIII flagship to being recovered from the depths of the Solent and dramatically restored at Portsmouth Dockyard.

A bit behind the scenes
Simon, Sienna, my mom, and I went to the UK to take care of my late father-in-law’s estate. Keith passed away in January of this year just after we spent Christmas and New Year with him at his hospital bedside. Keith was planning on flying to us in the Caribbean for Christmas. Instead of making plans to collect him at the airport, we received a shocking phone call telling us that he didn’t have long to live.
Keith had a fascination with anything related to the military and war. As you’ll see in the video, his flat/apartment overlooked Portsmouth Harbor, where the current naval base and the Portsmouth Naval Museum is located. You can see the modern aircraft carriers in addition to the masts of the famous Warrior. Keith enjoyed sitting on his balcony watching the naval ships come in and out.
While with friends we had a little memorial where we all shared funny stories of Keith. He was a very interesting character. Keith always had a joke to share, a crazy story to tell, and a kind word to offer. He has left a big hole in our hearts and will dearly be missed. Rest in peace Keith and know how loved you are.
