Life after lockdown as a sailing cruiser in Grenada feels almost normal. If you have a boat or are about to get one you could be living quite a wonderful life if you can get to this southern Caribbean country. The airport has yet to open and cruise ships can’t come in. The only way you can enter Grenada at this very moment is to have a private yacht, enter Grenada, and quarantine on your boat for two weeks.
After that, you can enjoy the benefits of living life as a cruiser – the way it was pre-COVID!

We are here to help you determine what the sailing cruising life is like so you can decide if it’s worth the time and expense to go buy a boat and set sail.
In this video, I’m going to walk you through life after our COVID lockdown. Grenada hasn’t had a positive case in quite some time. So you can see what it’s like for one country to open up a bit.
During our last update, we explained that Grenada opened its borders for sailors so they could spend hurricane season in the country. Many sailors flocked down from as far north as American and The Bahamas. Once they arrived they had to anchor in a designated bay and self-quarantine for two weeks. Once the 2 weeks were over they had to get a COVID test and provided the results were negative they were allowed to officially enter the country and go wherever they wanted to go.
Much to our delight people started coming into the marina!
It was amazing to see so many new faces. And we have had several family boats enter the marina or anchor in the bays near us. We’ve had Beach BBQs, kids beach meet-ups, and have gone on walks finding GeoCashes, enjoying the local scenery, and getting to know the new boaters.
Our marina has also come back to life. The pool is open to locals and cruisers. And we’ve been able to celebrate so many kid boat birthday for both the adults and the children.
We’ve also started a Kids movie night on the lightship next to us.
Our local market Meat & Meat Market donates their popcorn machine and popcorn every Friday. And Le Phare Blue lets us use the Lightship. We have a wonderful group of kids come and enjoy a movie together while the adults enjoy a beverage or two.
And then all our dreams came true when the marina announced that a kids camp was opening on the red lightship next to our boat. We couldn’t believe that our daughter went was able to go from being totally isolated during lockdown to being able to join a kids camp from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday and make 20 new friends.
What else has been happening around the marina?
Well…a bunch of baby turtles came in on the Sarcassa Seaweed and the kids had a ball helping them get untangled and releasing them back out to sea.
We had a tiny little visitor, a mini lizard, and have been hoping that his mother didn’t have him onboard.
We have been able to chill out at the bar and hang out with old and new friends. We’ve had a few nights where we’ve invited some of our neighbors over for drinks and some munchies. And as a special treat, many of the marina guests rent one of the cottages onsight for special occasions. Our friends on Tropic Bird had a birthday so it was nice to walk over onto land and celebrate with some amazing cake.
Kim and I have also been getting some cooking lessons from Gill from Meat & Meet Market. We learned how to make steamed dumplings for dim sum and Gilles prepared a wonderful feast for a few of us.
With so many new people at the marina, there’s often someone that volunteers to do beach workouts or yoga or stretching.
We can do it here at Le Phare Bleu or head over to another bay where there’s water aerobics or various other options. (I need to get my Covid – 15 off!!!)
Much to our massive happiness, there’s a Gin Distillery here on the marina grounds. Our friend Aaron, a partner in the company, is now offering Gin Tours.
So…the Petite Calvigny Yacht Club is also based at Le Phare Blue Marina and they put on an annual Hobie Cat race. I was fortunate to get asked to be a starting and finishing gun person… The day was great. Loads of people came out to watch, there were kids enjoying themselves and everyone had a great time.
What about boat jobs?
Thanks to Driftwood here in Grenada we have a new mirror that looks much better in that space, we also had our stairs revarnished and we got a scuffed floorboard made to look new again. We’re very pleased with the job.
And my friend Aaron, from Clarity Marine Systems, and I spent half a day trying to fix our boom light. We’ll create a different troubleshooting video for that but let me tell you it was the first issue that helped us figure things out, nor the 2nd or 3rd…finally after rectifying 4 faults we got the boom lights to work.
