Dominican Republic

Sail with us from Turks and Caicos to Samana in the Dominican Republic. View our passage plan,  experience what it’s like to anchor off a deserted island in the pitch black, and find out how to put a staysail up.

Simon will explain how we monitor boats in the area over AIS using our plotter. Check out some humpback whales that breach and slap their tails. Find out why we had to divert to the Dominican Republic rather than sailing on to Puerto Rico. You’ll also see what can go wrong with a genoa halyard and how to replace one halyard with another.

Finally, discover where a suspected fuel leak came from and take a tour of the lovely Puerto Bahia Marina – one of the best marina’s we’ve stayed in!

Where were we before and where are we going next?

If you’d like an overview of all the places we’ve visited in the Caribbean please read our destination overview: Caribbean

  • Check out our previous sailing trips in the Bahamas – Sailing Bahamas.
  • Previous to the Dominican Republic we spent time in Turks and Caicos.
  • The next stop is Puerto Rico – Sailing Across The Mona Passage.

THE BRITICAN EXPERIENCE - A WEEK-LONG BLUEWATER CRUISING EXPERIENCE
Britican ExperienceDuring Merrill's Britican Experience he learned how to book out and into a different country, what it's like to fly a mainsail, genoa, and staysail, how to anchor, tie onto a mooring ball and dock up at a marina. And unfortunately/fortunately Merrill managed to experience what it was like to ride out a surprise tropical storm. If you'd like to experience what it's truly like to live and cruise on a bluewater sailboat, come join us for a week. Check out our availability here: Click here for more information.
